Nonprofits

The Millar Institute brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in fundraising and nonprofit management. With a proven success rate and track record of developing institutional advancement offices, successful grant applications, and consistently exceeding fundraising goals, Dr. Millar also teaches nonprofit courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels including fund management, governance, law and ethics.

While the nonprofit landscape may feel uncertain, it’s also an opportunity to adapt and thrive. We help nonprofits reimagine what’s possible.

In the midst of federal grantmaking uncertainty and waning donor confidence, we recognize the gravity of the challenges facing the nonprofit sector. Our team provides the opportunity for strategic insight through comprehensive assessment, tailored strategic planning, innovative fundraising approaches, and board governance support.

A 2025 analysis report from the Urban Institute found that public charities receive government grants in more than 95 percent of counties in the United States. Without these grants, most nonprofits would be unable to cover their expenses.

“Dr. Millar has been instrumental in the success of our nonprofit REACHcycles! Her professional support with grant writing and many other tasks has allowed REACHcycles to grow beyond our expectations and in turn provide hundreds of bikes to children with disabilities. We are extremely thankful for her amazing work and dedication to our mission. She would make a valuable asset to any nonprofit no matter how big or small, she takes a personal interest in improving each mission's success.”

“I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Heather since 2010 when she served as the Executive Director of Tad’s Kids – a 501c3 that was established to honor the life of Tad DuPriest by providing financial relief for local families battling childhood cancer. Heather demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational skills for Tad’s Kids and the families that we serve. Under her leadership, we increased our fundraising to record levels.
